The new academic year of the PhD in Analysis of Social and Economic Processes (ASEP) at the University of Milano-Bicocca officially began on October 30th, 2024, with a Lectio Magistralis by Professor Patrick Le Galès (CNRS, Sciences Po, Paris). 

Professor Le Galès delivered a lecture titled “Western Capitalism and the Role of the State”, in which he examined transformations in the state-market relationship across advanced economies. The lecture was followed by a discussion led by Paola Mattei (Università degli Studi di Milano).

This event served both as the ceremonial and intellectual opening of the ASEP program’s 2024–25 cohort. It introduced incoming doctoral students to some key theoretical concerns that underpin the program’s research focus, while also setting a tone of critical engagement and international dialogue.
